William Luken came to the United States in 1868. He lived in Baltimore, MD for several years before coming to San Pierre, IN where the rest of the family had settled. He was a cabinet maker and carpenter but later went into merchandising. He came to San Pierre in 1880. He was the brother of Herman Heinrich Luken, who was born in 1843. They both were among the founders of St. Luke Evangelical German Lutheran Church of San Pierre, IN.

DIES IN CHICAGO
The funeral of William Luken, who died Monday in Chicago, was conducted at San Pierre Thursday afternoon. Mr. Luken was an uncle of John H. Kluth, A. F. Kluth and Mrs. George Schaible and had visited in Lafayette often. They attended the funeral Thursday.
