Jakob was imprisoned from the 13th of September 1939 up to the 2nd of February 1940 in Sachsenhausen. After he was released, he died as a result of the maltreatment he had suffered in confinement. He was the father of the actor, Michael Degen.
The Stolpersteine Project laid a bronze plaque on the sidewalk in front of his former residence at Elberfelder Str. 30, in Berlin-Mitte (Moabit), Germany.
