Minerva Anna Schmidt was born January 1, 1921 in York Township of Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of Aldolph H. and Ida Alina Newkirk Hudepohl. She was baptized on January 30, 1921 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. Albert Bostelmann on March 25, 1934.

Minerva was united in marriage to Oren G. Schmidt on March 12, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking and playing cards. She worked many years as a waitress in Amana area restaurants and helped serve lunch at the Lutheran Interparish School. Minerva was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Homestead and a member of the Ladies Aid.

She touched the lives of many people by visiting and helping others and will be missed by all who knew her. She truly enjoyed being a Great Oma to her great-grandson Cody, who loved her very much. Minerva died on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo after a sudden illness at the age of 82 years. She is survived by her husband Oren; a son Stanley Schmidt and wife Karen of Homestead; a granddaughter Kristin Schmidt-Solberg and husband Jason of Middle Amana; a great grandson Cody; two sisters: Alice Rudin of Marengo and Lucille Madoerin-Bell and husband Dale of Williamsburg and a number of nieces and nephews. Minerva was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Jerry Dean, a brother Reno Hudehohl and a sister, Irma, of Wardenburg.
