IRIS LOWE HUMMEL died in September, 1999. She was born in Huckabay and had lived in Ranger since 1924. She was a life member of Beta Signa Phi and a longtime member and past treasurer of Garden Club. She was a longtime member of Order of Eastern Star, Ranger Chapter 275, and president of Pioneer Cemetery Association. She was a member & treasurer of 1920 Club and a member of Ranger Historical Preservation Society. She served on the Ranger College board of regents for 21 years and was past president. She had been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1931 and a former choir member, church treasurer and member of the Administrative Board. She was a member of Lone Cedars Country Club Ladies Association and was employed by First National Bank for more than 20 years. She had a daughter and son. Interment was in Eastland City Cemetery in Eastland.

Survivors include one daughter, Elsie Bergfeld of Conroe; and one son, Jack L. Hummel of Castle Rock, Colorado; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one nephew.
