Joan D. Mroz, 66, of Thompson, PA died Tuesday at home after a battle with cancer. She was the wife of Thomas E. Mroz. Born in Carbondale, PA she was the daughter of the late Henry and Agnes Tomazin Lahoda. She attended Saint Martin of Tours Church, Jackson. A graduate of Hancock Central School, and East Stroudsburg College; she received her masters of science degree in administration from the University of Scranton. Joan was a retired elementary school teacher of 39 years at Hancock Central School. She was a member of the New York State United Teachers' Association. Also surviving are 2 sons: Nathan Thomas Mroz and his wife Linda, Charlotte, NC and Brian Thomas Mroz, Mooresville, NC; 2 grandchildren: Abigail Elizabeth and Ella Grace Mroz; 2 sisters: Mary Ann Saslo and her husband Paul, Mayfield, PA; and Linda Rizzo, and her husband Frank, West Windsor, NY; 2 brothers: John Lahoda and his wife Cheryl, Vestal, NY and David Lahoda, Athens; 2 uncles: Thomas Lahoda, Boynton Beach, FL; and Joseph Tomazin, Berkshire, NY; an aunt: Dorothy Ludlam, Longmont, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Martin of Tours Church, Jackson, PA. Interment will be private. Friends may call Friday, from 4 to 7 pm at the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City, PA. All those attending the funeral on Saturday are asked to go directly to the church.
