James Monroe Williams, age 81 of Alton, MO was born February 18, 1931 near Jobe, MO and passed away December 22, 2012 at his home.

Survivors include; his wife Charlene Whiteker-Williams, three children, Dora Fickinger and husband Terry, Debby Latham and husband Larry, Sheri Smith, six step-children, Sandy Ponder, Roger McManus and wife Judy, Denise Woods and husband Vince, Beverly Baker and husband George, Kristi Willoughby and husband James, Brad Hensley and wife Genetta, seven grand children, 12 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Jewell Williams and wife Mary Ellen, Jessie Williams and wife Edith, Dale Williams and wife Earlene, three sisters, Connie Bettis, Augusta Smith, Polly Vanwinkle and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gib and Lena Williams, a son Mike Williams, a grandson Danny Ponder, four brothers, Joe, Jerry, Jennings and Junior Williams, three sisters, Cindy Jackson, Sherry Williams, Eugenia Waggoner.

James served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Granite City Steel after 30 years, taught school at Oak Hill for two years, was a volunteer fireman for both the Long Lake (Granite City, IL) and BB Road (Alton, MO) fire departments. James was a Christian and an active member of the Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Services will be Monday, December 24, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Oak Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Edward Casey officiating, burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, noon-until service time.
