Born in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Leo and Clara Homitz. Peter was a 1953 graduate of Freedom High School, CCBC and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Slippery Rock University. His 25-year career as a special education teacher began at D.T. Watson, then continued with Beaver County Intermediate Unit and ending at Western Beaver Schools, from where he retired in 1999.
Peter was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Monaca serving on the church council and teaching CCD classes. He was an outdoorsman and a good neighbor.
Peter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia (Mandarino) Homitz; five children, Carol (Richard) Homitz-McNulty, Susan Homitz, Michael (Kris) Homitz, Mary Homitz and Dan Homitz; six grandchildren, Sean, Rick, and Caity McNulty and Zachary, Ethan, and Spencer Homitz; a sister, Elizabeth McVicker; two sisters-in-law, Peggy (Larry) Garuccio, and Shirley (Chester) Homitz and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Chester, Edward and David Homitz.
Friends will be received on Thursday, December 26, 2019, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca where prayers will be offered on Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Freedom.
