Iranian Major General. He joined the Revolutionary Guard in 1979, following the Iranian Revolution. He served in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), until his assassination. Sometime in the late 1990's, he was appointed as the commander of the Quds Force, an IRGC division mainly responsible for clandestine and extra-territorial military operations. In that position, he played a key role in the Syrian Civil War. He also strengthened the relationship between Quds Force and Hezbollah. He was described by an ex-CIA operative, as "the single most powerful operative in the Middle East." He was killed during a targeted U.S. drone strike on January 3, 2020 in Baghdad, Iraq. A ring he wore was used to identify his body.
