Hans Wilhelm Heinrich Emmer was the second-born child of Otto and Elsbeth Friedrichs Emmer.
Hans Emmer was baptized August 15, 1909, and he was confirmed March 25, 1923, in the St. Stephani Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helmstedt, Germany.
Hans Emmer married Dora Lehmann on 28 Dec. 1940, in Dessau, Germany, and they were the parents of one daughter, Ingeborg, who was born August 27, 1942.
Inge Emmer married Lutz Benndorf, and they were the parents of five children: Sybill, Olaf, Elvira, Regina, and Michael.

Hans and Dora Emmer lived through World War II, and at the war's end, they saw the division of Germany among the allied powers. The city of Dessau where they resided became part of the Soviet-occupied zone of Germany, and thus Hans and Dora became citizens of the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany.
Hans Emmer's occupation was an engineer. After World War II ended, Hans and his family were commissioned to go to the Soviet Union where Hans was obliged to help rebuild that country. They were later allowed to return to East Germany.

At his death in 1958, Hans Emmer was survived by his wife, Dora; his daughter, Inge; and his sister, Gertrud Emmer Danker.
Hans Emmer was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Elsbeth Friedrichs Emmer, and his brother, Otto Emmer, Jr.
