Verda Hilda (Spies) Blome, 87, passed away February 27, 2020 in Richmond, TX. She was born November 20, 1932 in Houston, TX, on her Dad's (Alvin C. Spies) birthday.

She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Church, Needville, TX, and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Houston, TX. Verda was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #350, Needville, TX. Since 1994, she was a volunteer at the Michael DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, TX. She was Volunteer of the Year in 1996, and volunteered on the 5th Floor, SICU, and Recovery Room. For eight years, she was the American Legion Auxiliary Representative.

On December 2, 1951, she married Wilbert Blome at Zion Lutheran Church in Houston, TX. Wilbert passed away on August 6, 1992. Wilbert and Verda shared the most wonderful 40 years, 8 months, and 4 days of joy, love, and happiness that any two people could ever dream of having. Verda's grief stayed with her until her death, and now she is happy with her one and only Wilbert.

Verda is survived by numerous friends and relatives, including special cousins, Delbert Wendt, Joyce Park, Jeryl Finke, Jason Loewe, Ryan Loewe, Wilbert Loewe, and Tommie Wendt.

Visitation will be 9 - 10 AM Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at Immanuel Evangelical Church, 9018 Church Street, Needville, TX 77461, for one hour preceding the service. The funeral service will begin at 10 AM, with Rev. Ron Shifley officiating. Burial will be 2 PM Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.

Memorials may be given in her memory to MEDVAMC for Houston Fisher House, Attn: Volunteer Service, 2002 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030; or to Immanuel Evangelical Church - Confirmation Flowers Fund, P.O. Box 505, Needville, TX 77461.
