Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 5, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.
Gary Leslie Lilienthal was born December 17, 1943, in Davenport, the son of Allen and Erna (Bockwoldt) Lilienthal. He proudly served his country in the Iowa National Guard for six years. He married Sandra Lee Statler on April 6, 1968, in Tipton. He farmed in Cedar and Scott Counties and later drove a truck, until he retired in 2009. He was a member of the Wilton Masonic Lodge #167 AF & AM, Scottish Rite and Purity Chapter of OES. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying, talking about planes and attending air shows. He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra; three sons, Grant (Angela) Lilienthal of Durant, Brad (Heather) Lilienthal of Ankeny and Ryan (Samantha) Lilienthal of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Hannah (Drew) Lensch, Drew Lilienthal, Brooke Lilienthal, Curtis Lilienthal, Luke Lilienthal and Hayes Lilienthal; one great-grandson, Carson Lensch; one sister, Sara (James) Orvick of Oregon, WI, and two brothers, William (Linda) Lilienthal of Duncombe and Cal (Nancy) Lilienthal of Solon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
