Erna I. Lilienthal, age 94, of Durant, died on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Serving as pallbearers will be Grant Lilienthal, Brad Lilienthal, Ryan Lilienthal, James Orvick, David Lilienthal, and Michael Lilienthal. Interment will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa. Memorial donations may be made to Durant Community Center or Lioness Flower Garden in her memory.
Erna Ione Bockwoldt was born December 6, 1920, to Alfred and Agnes (Ruwe) Bockwoldt in Muscatine County, Iowa. Erna graduated from Durant High School in 1937. She married Allen Floyd Lilienthal on February 17, 1940, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1978.
Erna loved life on the farm, gardening, fishing, the great outdoors, playing cards and listening to music. She liked all kinds of flowers, being outside and always, always had the biggest Christmas tree filled with bubble lights. Erna loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s games, meets, and concerts.
Erna is survived by one daughter, Sara (James) Orvick of Oregon, WI; three sons, Bill (Linda) Lilienthal of Duncombe, IA, Gary (Sandy) Lilienthal of Wilton, and Cal (Nancy) Lilienthal of Iowa City; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert (Delorus) Bockwoldt of Durant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Beatrice Lilienthal.
