 Herman John Luschen was born January 29, 1932, in rural Pender to John Henry and Alma Anna Magdalena (Burmeister) Luschen. He attended District #2 country school in Wayne County. John served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 and the Nebraska Army Reserve from 1955 to 1961 beginning at Fort Riley, Kansas then at Fort Hood, Texas and later at West Point, New York. John married Helen Mae Warnock April 21, 1951, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. The couple farmed southeast of Wayne for several years. Besides farming, John also did carpentry and mechanic work. He enjoyed restoring classic cars, pickup trucks, and tractors. He lived in Norfolk before moving to Wayne Countryview in 2022.

  John is survived by his children, Sandra (Rick) Gathje of Wayne, Don (Anita) Luschen of Wayne, Mary (Rex) Burt of Wayne and Carolyn (Cory) Fraas of Denton; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Friedrich of Plainview; nieces and nephews.

  John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen April 21, 2000; three sisters, Frieda (Gordon) Jorgensen, Mable (Wayne) Tietgen and Alma (Hans) Geewe and several in-laws. 

He passed away Saturday, March 18 at Wayne Countryview Care. Memorials may be directed to the Luschen family for later designation.
