Frank Elshoff, Former City Treasure And Active in Local Affairs, Dies; Rites Tomorrow
...For sixteen years he served the city of Springfield as city treasure, and to those who had business at the city hall the name Frank Elshoff was a symbol of friendly and kindly treatment. Mr. Elshoff was appointed city treasurer in 1915 by J. Emil Smith, then commissioner of finance. He served in this capacity until 1931, when he became associated with his son Carl Elshoff, coal mine operator.
From 1891 until 1893 Mr. Elshoff was an alderman having been elected from the sixth ward. Prior to his appointment as city treasurer he was deputy circuit clerk.
Mr. Elshoff was born in Gronau, Westphalia, Germany, seventy-six years ago coming to America when he was 6 years old with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Elshoff in 1864. For years he was associated with his father and four brothers, E.B., Anton, Herman and Henry Elshoff, in the grocery business at Eleventh and Cook streets under the firm name of Henry Elshoff & Sons...
...Mr. Elshoff is survived by his wife Elizabeth Elshoff, and three sons, Arthur, Carl and Vincent; five grandchildren; four brothers, E.B. Elshoff, Herman ELshoff, Anton Elshoff and Henry Elshoff; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Gaupel Springfield, IL. and Mrs. Elizabeth Hass of Deviance, Ohio.
