Ola Vera Kirk Smith was born in Waco, Texas after her father John E. Kirk moved the family there from Izard County, AR. Ola's mother, Leola Morgan Kirk became very ill and died shortly after Ola's birth. JE Kirk moved the family back to Arkansas where he remarried and moved that new family to Granite, OK. There Ola met Claud P. Smith however, because Mr. Kirk would not allow his daughter to marry a part Chickasaw, Claud and Ola ran off and were married in Hobart, OK.
