HERMANSON, Helen Marie (nee Sinclair) May 2, 1918 - January 31, 2009 Unexpectedly at 2:30 am at Ottawa General. Born in Toronto and married there to S/L Ret. Jack Hermanson (d. Apr 2008) Sept. 28, 1940. Helen left this earth surrounded by her loving family. She was an accomplished homemaker /hostess, a true RCAF wife, raising 4 children and managing households across Canada, from Summerside PE to Edmonton, AB and finally Ottawa, ON when Jack retired there. Throughout 67 years of marriage she kept the house humming with homemade bread, preserves, knitting, refinishing furniture, and sewing clothes late into the night for herself and her family. A "night owl" to the end. Her lovely gardens at their Withrow Ave. house were an extension of her beautiful self. Who else could coax roots and thence blossoms from a florist's rose stem? There wasn't a thing she wouldn't tackle! Jack and Helen were fantastic dancers - a joy to behold on the dance floor. One of their supreme pleasures was tootling up and down the Rideau River in the Suzie Q, their antique day cruiser. A devotee of "Work first, play later", "Any job worth doing is worth doing well" and "Waste not, want not". Her children are grateful she instilled these values in them. Helen leaves an immense hole in the fabric of our lives: her 3 daughters; Julie, Cher (both of Ottawa) and Glennis (St Pete, FL), her daughter-in-law, Jan (Dartmouth, NS), 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Cremation. No service. Family/friends gathering TBA. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Arthritic Society.
