George John Ostermiller was born on September 16, 1926 in Lincoln, Nebraska to George J. and Katherine Ostermiller. His four older sisters (Ruth, Leona, Thelma and Jean) welcomed (and spoiled) him.

George grew up helping his dad, who built houses in Lincoln. He graduated from Lincoln High in 1944 and enrolled at UNL that fall.
In February of 1945 he joined the U.S. Army and served in occupied Japan until discharged as a sergeant in October of 1946. After arriving home, George started a dance band with his brother-in-law, and they played at various clubs in the Lincoln area.

In January of 1947 he enrolled at UNL, and later that year met the love his life, Bernadine Michaelis. George and Bernadine were married on December 22, 1949. After graduating from UNL in January of 1950 with a B.S. in business, he was recruited to join the FBI in Chicago as a special agent until 1960. George went on to the National Homeowners Club in Evanston, IL, recruiting trained men to do home improvements for customers. In June of 1961 the family moved to Omaha where George joined Equitable Life Assurance Society as an agent. He was at Equitable for 42 years.

Bernadine passed in May of 2000. George was already friends with Fern and Chuck Axtell from church, and after a while he started to see Fern, who was also a widow. They married in March of 2002. Fern passed in July of 2019.

George re-dedicated his life to Christ at the Billy Graham Crusade in Omaha in 1964. He loved the Lord and participated in Bible studies and Sunday School, and chauffeured widows to church who were unable to drive. He was a charter member of Breakfast Optimist Club and worked with Vital Signs pro-life ministry for many years. He was also a member of Ex-FBI Agents, American Legion and VFW. He was devoted Husker fan.
