JOSEPH DEFORKE, JR., 83 devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2007. He was a first generation Italian (Sicilian) American born on July 11, 1924 in Steeles' Store, Texas (Bryan area) and is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lena DeForke, his brothers, Lee DeForke and Father John DeForke and his sister, Nita Skeeter. After service in World War II, he started Instrument Exchange, Inc. in 1945 with co-owner, Peter Brady. Joe was outgoing and enjoyed meeting people. He was also a real historian when it came to Italian-Sicilian families who immigrated to Houston. If you named someone, he always seemed to know their family connection. Joe loved to fish and spent many weekends on his pier at his Virginia Point bay house. He also enjoyed traveling to nearby casinos with his wife and her sisters and their husbands. He was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church in Pearland. His Sicilian roots were evident by his long time affiliation and membership in the Sacred Heart Hall playing cards with friends he'd known for many years. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm till 9:00 pm Monday, September 3rd at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home with a Rosary Service to begin at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Forest Park Lawndale Main Chapel with interment to follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
