Mrs. Baker was born August 26, 1933, in Ehrenfeld, Pa., a daughter of the late Lawrence T. and Hilda Marie (Kelly) Bordell. She attended Derry Township, Westmoreland County (PA), schools and moved to the area in the early 1950's.
Primarily a homemaker, Ruth was formerly employed by Howell Industries, Masury. She was an active member of Sharon Baptist Church, Hermitage, where she was involved with the funeral meals ministry and the share and care ladies group.
Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church and baking cookies at Christmas time. She was a wise and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Ruth's Caregiver, Bernadine Bayus, who brought such joy to her life the past few years.
Her husband, Arthur L. Baker, whom she married February 6, 1951, passed away February 27, 1999.
Surviving are: two daughters, Darlah Shugarts and her husband Frank, of Brookfield, and Yevonne "Vonnie" Abeles and her husband Thomas, of Deland, FL; a son, Lawrence "Larry" Baker, of Masury; six grandchildren, Alannah Baker, Ryan Shugarts, Michaela Baker, Dylan Abeles, Lauren Shugarts and Lawrence Baker; five great grandchildren, Dani, Capri, Christian, Naomi and Sire; and many loving nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence J. Bordell and George E. Bordell; and six sisters, Mary McCurdy, Irene Munnell, Genevieve Fink, Annabelle Leslie, Kartherine Yankevich and Shirley Novello.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Baptist Church, 1531 George St., Hermitage, PA 16148.
Due to concerns presented by the Covid-19 virus, the service will be held privately and broadcasted via livestream at 11 a.m. Tuesday (1-5-21) in Sharon Baptist Church, Hermitage, with Rev. Curt Gordon, pastor, officiating.
