Two of her sisters, Sister Mary Emmanuel and Sister Mary Eloi, followed her example and came to St. Mary-of-the-Woods, but with less difficulty than she experienced. Both these Sisters preceded her in death.
For more than thirty years before her death, Sister Mary Rita attached to the household staff of the motherhouse at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. She suffered at times from a nervous anxiety which took the form of scruples. She was always perfectly obedient, however, and a word of explanation from a Superior brought her temporary peace. She was always very regular in her spiritual exercises, and gave good example by her sweetness of disposition, and her willing kindness to anyone whom she could help.
She suffered very much from arthritis during the last years of her life, and for the last year was declining slowly but steadily. She was prepared for death, and departed this life peacefully on January 9, 1957 at 1:50 PM. No members of her immediate family survived. One sister-in-law, Mrs. Hugo Rinke of Centerline, Michigan , and some nieces and nephews, Sister Rose Clement, I.H.M. of Monroe, Michigan, and Mr. Edward Wolf, of Centerline are still living.
Sister Mary Rita taught elementary students from 1894-1938.
