President of Nicaragua. The son of a coffee grower and local political leader, Martínez was appointed Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of President Emiliano Chamorro in 1919. In 1921 he was elected Vice President of Nicaragua. Following the sudden death of President Diego Manuel Chamorro in 1923, he was appointed President of Nicaragua and served as such until 1925. In 1925 he was appointed Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of President Carlos José Solórzano, a post he held until Solórzano was overthrown by Emiliano Chamorro in 1926.
