Lawrence ‘Larry’ Rolfes, 77, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Mike Hulinsky from the Le Mars Bible Church will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home. Social distancing and wearing a mask are suggested. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Lawrence Elmer ‘Pluto’ Rolfes was born on August 26, 1943 in Le Mars, Iowa to Ben and Caroline (Ruether) Rolfes. He attended Gehlen Catholic school and then enlisted in the United States Army in 1963. Larry was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1965. Larry made his home in Le Mars and worked at various businesses over the years in Le Mars: Wells, City of Le Mars, Westmar College, Schuster Trucking, and Le Mars Truck and Trailer. He also worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City.

Larry was active in the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 in Le Mars and was active in the Legion Riders for many years. He was also a member of the Vietnam Last Man Club and a previous volunteer for the Le Mars Fire Department.

Larry was part of the “Chain Gang” at Le Mars Community High School and Westmar College football games and the Sioux City Bandits indoor football games in Sioux City. He volunteered with Awesome Harley Nights in Sioux City for many years. He enjoyed bowling, attending car shows, and trying his luck at the casinos. Larry spent many days at the Le Mars Truck Stop having coffee with his friends. He also enjoyed spending time and going shopping at flea markets with Sue Krentz and her grandchildren.

He is survived by his special friend, Sue Krentz and her children; 5 “grandchildren”: Paul Smith, Searra Miller, Brian Smith, Hunter Hansen, and Zeke Schultz; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and his many friends from Schuster Trucking.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Elmer (Hilda) Rolfes, Andrew (Betty) Rolfes, Bernard (Ann) Rolfes, Lester (Phyllis) Rolfes, Arnold (Mary) Rolfes, and Leonard (Colleen) Rolfes; and sister, Sr. Dorothy Rolfes.
