Karl Risch, Famed Restaurateur, Dies
Karl Risch, 83, widely known Syracuse restaurateur, died yesterday at his home, 514 E. Laurel st., after a long illness. A native Germany, he came to the United States 62 years ago. He was a former manager of Syracuse Turn Hall, and operated a restaurant at W. Fayette and Franklin sts., before his retirement 25 years ago. Mr. Risch was a member of the Syracuse Elks, German Pioneers, honorary president of the veterans members of Syracuse Liederkranz, a veteran member of Arion Singing society and honorary member of Syracuse Turners. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frank Salanger; a son, Dr. Otto C. Risch of New York city; two grandsons, Bernard R. Salanger and Robert R. Risch; a sister, Mrs. Leo Gerst; two brothers in Germany, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Schumacher & Mason funeral home, the Rev. Frank Shimer officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
