Boone Co Democrat 1915

Hans Kock, another of the well-known and highly esteemed pioneer residents of Boone county, passed away at his home in Amaqua township Friday, Dec 10th, after a brief illness. The funeral services were held from the home at 1:00 o'clock Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. A.J. Boehm of the German Evangelical Lutheran church of Ogden, and attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and neighbors. Burial in the German Lutheran cemetery in Amaqua township.
Hans Kock was born in Friederickholm, Schleswig, Germany Dec. 23, 1845, making him almost seventy years of age at the time of his death. He grew to young manhood in his native country and served as a soldier in the Franco Prussian war. He came to America in the spring of 1872 and settled in Jackson county, Iowa, where he remained for a few years and then came to Boone county and purchased a farm in Peoples Township. There, on October 12, 1878 he was united in marriage with Miss Magdalena Kuhl. In 1890 he sold the Peoples township farm and purchased the Uncle George Shadle homestead in Amaqua township, where the family has since resided. To Mr. and Mrs. Kock were born five children, the oldest dying in infancy. He is survived by his wife and four children, William, Louise, Herman and Ernest, all at home, also one brother, Claus, in Germany, and one sister in Chicago, three brothers having preceded him in death.
Mr. Kock was a progressive and prosperous farmer, a good friend and neighbor and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was frequently elected to offices of trust and always took a keen interest in the welfare and progress of the public schools. He was a staunch democrat of the old Jefferson type, and was always fond of working faithfully for the best interests of his party and of the county. His death is a keen sorrow to all and the family have the warmest sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement.
