Mendel Balbirer was born in Plonna, Poland to David Balbirer and Rosa Kessler.
He was a Holocaust survivor who spend time in Auschwitz and liberated in Mauthausen, Austria. After liberation he was in the DP camp in Linz and later in Bad Ishel together with his youngest sister, Bashe.
In September 1948 they all immigrated to Montevideo Uruguay where he married Aida Mitnik in 1953. Had 3 children, David "Lito" , Nelson and Rosita. Mendel passed away in Bat Yam, Israel after a long illness.
