Second of eight children born to Ebenezer Hyman, Jr. and Talitha Bithia Mayo Brown of Martin County, NC. She is the paternal grandchild of Ebenezer Hyman & Temperance Jones and a direct descendant of Hugh H. Hyman (1702-1757) who came to Bertie Co, NC from Stafforshire, England, where he married Mary Ray ca. 1723. She is the maternal grandchild Lunsford Rhodes Brown & Bithiah Mayo Pippen of Martin Co, NC.
She was 18 years old when she he married 27 yr old George T. DeBerry of Tarboro. George became a successful farmer, and the couple had and the couple had four children between 1890-1897: Wilbur (c. 1889) Arthur (c. 1890), Olivia Temperance (c. 1895), and Miriam Talitha (c. 1897).
In 1911, George built a large Queen Anne-styled Victorian Home on Main Street that still remains in the family (ca. 2008).
G. T. DeBerry died in 1939 at age 79. His wife remained a widow for 8 years until her passing in 1947.
