He was a Star basketball player. Lakewood, NJ (1969) — A three-year starter for coach Bob Nastase at forward, DeCausey was a workhorse at both ends of the court for the Piners. As a sophomore, he was on the team that won the Group III championship, scoring 12 points in the final against Weequahic. As a junior, he scored 18 points in the Piners' Shore Conference semifinal win over Neptune, ending the Scarlet Fliers' run of seven straight SCT crowns, before leading the Piners to the title, defeating Ocean in the final.
He went on to play as a freshman at Vincennes University alongside Bob McAdoo before transferring to Keene State, where he was the team's MVP and remains one of the program's top all-time rebounders.
A Memorial service will be Saturday, August 6th at 12pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 43 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, NJ. Services entrusted to the James H. Robinson Funeral Home, Brooklyn, NY.
