Marv was born February 12, 1932, in Wilton, Iowa, the son of Gerhard and Eleanore (Staehr) Beer. He graduated from high school and went on to graduate from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota. Marv was united in marriage to Jean Helmold on December 28, 1952, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bennett, Iowa. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956 during the Korean conflict. Marv worked at Wilson Packing and then became a test technician at Rockwell Collins for 30 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Jean Beer of Cedar Rapids; children, Michael (Janet) Beer of Bondurant, Iowa, Daniel (Colleen) Beer, and Deborah Gaeta, all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Donna (Lowell) Kitzmann of Bangor, Wisconsin; and brothers-in-law, Edgar Mumme of Waterville, Minnesota, and Allen Webb of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard and Eleanore Beer; and siblings, Daryl Beer, Myrna Mumme, and Barbara Webb.
The family requests no flowers or plants. Memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
