PEKIN - Daryl Wayne Beer, 77, of 1302 Lincoln St., passed away at 8:31 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria.



He was born June 21, 1930, in Wilton, Iowa, to Gerhard Robert and Eleonore Caroline Staehr Beer. He married Phyllis Marie Kenney on May 25, 1952, in Bennett, Iowa.

Surviving are his wife; one son, James S. Beer of Fort Worth, Texas; one granddaughter, Eleonore Caroline O'Connell of Pekin; one brother, Marvin R. (Jean) Beer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and three sisters, Myrna E. (Edgar) Mumme of St. James, Minn., Donna M. (Lowell) Kitzmann of Bangor, Wis., and Barbara A. (Allen) Webb of Madison, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Rebecca L. O'Connell on April 2, 2005 in Pekin.



Beer retired from Quaker Oats Co. on July 1, 1992, as financial manager of Pekin Paper Mill, a position he held for three years. He retired after 36 years of service with Quaker Oats, having worked at plants in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Los Angeles, Calif., Elizabeth, N.J., and Rockford. He also had worked at corporate offices in Chicago.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, with 405th Fighter Bomber Wing, attaining rank of staff sergeant.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving as financial secretary for many years.



He had formerly enjoyed playing golf.

His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark A. Miller and the Rev. Glenn R.A. Niemann officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force and Tazewell Military Rites Team.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, and also from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. prior to service Tuesday at the church.
