Actress. She shall be remembered by television audiences for playing Paul Reiser's mother 'Sylvia Buchman' in the Comedy series "Mad About You" (1992 to 1999). Her father was a businessman, she was educated at Smith College from where she received degrees in Theatre and Literature. Following graduation, she studied under Lee Strasberg at the Actor's Studio and in 1961, she made her initial professional performance in the stage production "The Premise." This was followed with her Broadway debut in the play "The Best Laid Plans" (1966). She made her motion picture debut in the film "Isadora" (1968) and went on to appear in the movies "Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me" (1971) and "Up the Sandbox" (1972). Among her many TV credits include "The Bob Newhart Show," "Three's Company," "Hart to Hart," "Knot's Landing" and had a recurring role as 'Iris Hubbard' in the series "L.A. Law" (1986 to 1987). She distinguished herself when she received a BAFTA TV Award nomination for the series "Edward & Mrs. Simpson" (1978). Additionally, she was known as the spokeswoman 'Mrs. B." for Bradlees Department Store commercials.
