David Martin Seiler was born May 20, 1938, on the family farm in rural Algona, Iowa, the son of Martin and Elizabeth (Balk) Seiler. He attended school in St. Benedict before going to Algona High School where he was involved in FFA, wrestled and played football. He graduated in 1956. After graduating he continued farming the family farm and was named KC's Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year.
On June 16, 1972, David was united in marriage to Nelvinea Hauenstein at St. Benedict Catholic Church. He continued to farm and was employed at Waltman Farms at the time of his death.
The biggest joy in Dave's life was spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, socializing and coffeeing with friends, as well as playing cards, camping and bird watching. He belonged to the Burt Coffee Club and was a member of the St. Benedict Parish.
David died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at his mother's home on the family farm. He was 69.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nelvinea of Algona, daughters, Kim Etherington and husband Ryan of Algona; Renetta Seiler of Cedar Falls; Katie Seiler and special friend Mike Kerker of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Dominick, Kameryn and Lillian Etherington; his mother, Elizabeth Seiler of Algona; brother, Duane Seiler of Algona; sisters, Darlene and Kenny Thilges of Algona and Karen and Larry Fogarty of West Bend. Also surviving are a goddaughter, Kendra Thilges and a godsons, Tim Fogarty and John Doocy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin; brother, Paul Seiler and a niece, Karla Kay Thilges.
