Elizabeth, 96, died Friday, January 4, 2008, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.
Elizabeth Mary Seiler was born April 18, 1911, in St. Benedict, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Renetta (Rake) Balk. She grew up and attended school in St. Benedict. After school she worked as a local midwife and nanny.
On October 22, 1929, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Martin Seiler at the St. Benedict Catholic Church. After their marriage they lived on a farm one mile west of St. Benedict and moved to the family farm in 1936, south of Sexton. Martin died in 1956 and Elizabeth remained on the farm until the time of her death.
Elizabeth enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing in several card clubs, going to Senior Citizen's Club in Wesley and was a member of the St. Benedict Town and Country Club and Irvington Fun & Do Club. She was a past Irvington Ideals 4-H Leader, a charter member of the St. Benedict Catholic Daughter's of America and past St. Benedict Guild President.
Elizabeth died Friday, January 4, 2008, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa. She was 96.
She is survived by her children, Duane Seiler of Algona, Iowa; Darlene and Kenny Thilges of Algona, Iowa; Karen and Larry Fogarty of West Bend, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Nelvinea Seiler of Algona, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Balk, Sr. of Algona, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Renetta; husband, Martin; sons, David Seiler and Paul Seiler; granddaughter, Karla Kay Thilges; three sisters, Lucille Orthaus, Matilda Owens and infant sister, Leona Balk.
