Born in 1903 in Leipzig he learned the trade of a tool maker (Werkzeugmacher) and bacame a member of the German Kommuist Party (KPD) in 1920. He wrked at the Osram Factory in Berlin-Moabit, were a was a member of the union. From 1934-36 he was imprissoned by the secret police (GESTAPO) for subversive behaviour. Released in summer of 1936 he continued his work in the underground resistance against the NAZI-regime and published an underground paper, called INFORMATIONSDIENST, were he pointed out cruel working conditions, and connections between politics and the ever so fast growing production of weapons, which he feared will only lead to another war. Other members of the Uhrig group included Werner Seelenbinder, Ernst Knaack, Paul Schutz-Liebisch and charlotte Eisenblätter. In February of 1942 he and 200 other members of the resistance were incarcirated and brought to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. On June 7th, 1944 the People's Court (Volksgerichtshof) sentenced him to death. On August 21st, 1944 he was executed in Brandenburg prison.
