Viola Mae Jaspersen, 92, Thornton, died June 23, 2017 at the Sheffield Care Center. Services will be Thursday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Thornton. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service.

Viola was born April 24, 1925 at a farm in Franklin County, fairly near where her future husband had been born in 1924. She was the fifth child of Otto and Mattie (Abbas) Dannen and was baptized at Zion Reformed near Chapin. Viola attended Swale-dale School where she was involved in basketball and choir.

On April 27, 1942 she was united in marriage to Harold Jaspersen at Zion Lutheran in Clear Lake. They were the parents of two daughters, Darlene and Jane. Viola and Harold worked side by side and were eventually able to buy their farm near Thornton. Viola was the school secretary at Thornton and then helped Harold start Jasper-sen Insurance and Real Estate in 1959.

Viola was an excellent seamstress and cook. She and Harold loved to fish with family and friends and spent many summers at their cabin in northern Minnesota. Viola was devoted to her family and church. She was presently a member of St. Paul Lutheran in Thornton.

She always seemed to take time to write just one more letter to family and friends, encouraging them to celebrate their lives. She was a beautiful lady inside and out, with a loving soul and heart warming personality. Her love for life, caring for others, and her gentle demeanor will be etched in the minds of all who had the opportunity to be a part of her life journey.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband Harold (July 31, 2016); brothers Else (Irene) and Engle (Gladys); and sisters Marie (George) and Florence (Gibson) Huntbatch.

Viola's memory will live on in her daughter Darlene (Dr. Franklin) Weingarten of Oregon and their children David, Ariel and Aaron; and daughter Jane (Gene) Christianson of Thornton and their sons Tom (Kristen) of Belmond and great-grandsons Court, Drew and Jonah, and Tim (Brigid) of Sheffield and great-granddaughters Delaney and Brynn; brothers-in-law Arlo (June) Jaspersen of Albert Lea, and Herluf Jaspersen of Peculiar, MO; sisters-in-law Marlys Jaspersen of Cedar Rapids and Verna Smeby of Northwood; brother-in-law Earl (Sharlene) of Clear Lake, and sister-in-law Esther Gilbertson of Billings, MT.
