He was united in marriage to Irene V. Muhlenbruch on Sept. 16, 1941, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in the Swaledale/Clear Lake/Sheffield area until 1960.
They moved to Swaledale where he was self-employed cornshelling and trucking. He was also a custodian in the Rockwell-Swaledale School district for 20 years.
Else was baptized at the Zion Reformed Church and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Swaledale.
Else enjoyed playing cards, music, dancing and golfing. He was a city council member, member of the fire department, member of SAMS Club (Swaledale Area Mens Club) and played an active role in his church.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him including, daughters, Sharon Burkhart and husband, Carl, of Perry, and Linda Schulz and husband, Paul, of Hampton; sons, Vern Dannen and wife, Janelle, of Plymouth, Ron Dannen and wife, Leilani, of Mason City, Duane "Pete" Dannen and wife, Marge, of Mason City; 15 grandchildren, Doug Bonjour, Curt Bonjour, David Schulz, Joni Kew, Nicholas Schulz, Dallas Schulz, Amy Stoeffler, Kari Pate, Aaron Dannen, Ryan Dannen, Kiley Dannen, Echo Cash, Dara Dannen, Kaci Jo Dannen, Jorden Dannen; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Viola Jaspersen and husband, Harold, of Thornton; a special friend, Renelda Petersen, of Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene, in 1999; two sisters, Marie Proctor and Florence Huntbatch; and one brother, Engle Dannen.
