Robert Alan Durst was born on April 12, 1943, in New York City, New York, to Bernice Charles Herstein, and Seymour Benjamin Durst , a famous real estate magnet. His siblings were Douglas, Tommy, and Wendy Durst. Sadly, as a young child, Bob watched his mother commit suicide by jumping off the roof of their family home on November 8, 1950, in Scarsdale, New York, at the age of 32. Bob married Kathleen "Kathie" McCormack Durst, a nurse, in 1972. First they owned a health food store together, then his father convinced him to move back to New York City to become active in the family's real estate empire. Kathie was going to med school to be a doctor when she suddenly disappeared in 1982. Bob was the last to see her alive. Bob's best friend from college was Author Susie Berman (daughter of mafia member David Berman). Rumors surfaced that Susie Berman had helped Bob cover-up the murder of his wife, Kathie. Then Susie Berman was found shot dead in her home in 2000. Bob was arrested, and while out on bail, he disguised himself and lived as a woman. When Bob's neighbor, Morris Black, became suspicious, Bob killed him too. He served 3 years in prison. Bob's brother and his family got a restraining order against him. He can be seen making fun of this in his documentary. In 2015, while filming the documentary "The Jinx", Bob can be heard on the microphone saying "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course." Upon the release of the movie, Durst was arrested again. On October 14, 2021, Durst was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for Berman's murder. The request of Durst for a new trial was denied by the court in view of the abundance of evidence ruling in favor of Durst's guilt for the crime. Robert Durst died in a California state prison hospital on January 11, 2022.∼Businessman and criminal. Born into a life of privilege and wealth, as a member of the Durst family, one of the richest families in the world. In 1971, he met a woman named Kathy McCormack, and married her in 1973. Although happy at first, their marriage took a sudden turn for the worst when Durst forced his wife to have a abortion. After that, she was so devastated that she become more and more independent. By 1982, it's rumored that she had been planning to divorce Durst. However, on February of 1982, Kathy Durst went missing and has never been found to this day. Although Robert Durst was a suspect to the police for his lack of concern, no evidence could be brought up against him. In 1992, most likely because of suspicion against him in the disappearance of his wife, Durst's younger brother, Douglas Durst, was made President of the family's organization instead of him, which made him upset to the point where he cut off all contact with his family. In 2000, a friend of Durst's, Susan Berman, was found murdered in her home in Los Angeles. She was going to give police information about Kathy Durst's disappearance. Although Robert was a suspect, the police , once again, had no evidence to charge him with any crime. In 2001, in Galveston, Texas, Durst murdered his neighbor Morris Black and chopped up his body into numerous parts. Despite this, his two million dollar defense team said that Durst killed him, but did so in self-defense, and only chopped up the body in fear no one would believe him, and was acquitted in 2003. In 2010, a Hollywood film called All Good Things was released, with Ryan Gosling portraying a character loosely based off of Durst, and Kirsten Dunst playing Kathy. Durst liked the film so much, he contacted its director, Andrew Jarecki, and wanted to make a documentary with him, that would become a six-part docu-series on HBO called The Jinx. The day before the final episode was aired, Durst was arrested in New Orleans following an arrest warrant for Durst in Los Angeles for Breman's murder, following what seemed to be a confession on the final episode. On May of 2021, after numerous legal delays, Durst's murder trial finally begun, and on October was convicted and sentenced to life without parole. By this point, he had numerous health problems and was on a ventilator, making people shocked he lived to see the verdict. On November 2021, he was indicated for the murder of his wife in New York, but died on January 2022 before he could live to stand trial.
