CASHMERE - Alex McKenzie, 81, pioneer resident of the upper valley, died Friday morning in a Cashmere rest home.
Mr. McKenzie was born Dec. 10, 1883, at Prince Edward Island, Canada. He came to Leavenworth in 1902 and worked with the Great Northern Railroad. He married Emma Searle on April 23, 1912, in Peshastin. They homesteaded in Derby Canyon and moved to Cashmere in 1920 where he was employed by the Schmitten Lumber Co. and the Union Warehouse. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1962, and one son, Kenneth.
He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Wenatchee.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Theron McGrew, Anchorage, Alaska; Miss Laura McKenzie, Seattle; Mrs. Robert Sorenson, Wenatchee; three sons, Martin McKenzie, Wenatchee; Sterling McKenzie, Cashmere; and Dewayne McKenzie, Renton; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Tom McKenzie, Leavenworth.
