Obituary – This community was shocked on Friday when the news was spread that John Haggemeister had departed this life early that morning. His sickness was of short duration and typhoid pneumonia was the direct cause of his early demise. The deceased was a hard working, industrious man, and for one of his age (44 years) had amassed a large property. Coupling this death with the fact that Mrs. Haggemeister is not a robust woman and that four of the children are at present seriously ill with the same malady that carried the father away makes it doubly sad. John was a good neighbor, a loving husband and a kind father, and just such a man as one likes to have living in the community.
The deceased is survived by his wife and eight children, namely: Fred, Lena, Rosa, Mary, Lydia, Sophia, Earnest and George, a father and mother who are past 80 years of age and who live in Renville county, Minn.; one brother, William, of Vivian Minn.; and three sisters, Mrs. John Tesch, Mrs. Sommers and Mrs. Goblins all of whom reside near Hector Minn. The funeral was held from the Lutheran church at two o'clock on Sunday, the local pastor officiating. Interment was held in the Decoria cemetery. BECE; 2/14/1902
