Betty Ann Lechman, 77, of Longmont, died at Peaks Care Center on Saturday, June 2, 2007. Betty was born on October 15, 1929, in Longmont to Peter and Appolonia (Steinbach) ''Opal'' Seewald.

On November 25, 1950, Betty married James M. "Jim" Lechman in Longmont.

She grew up in Longmont and graduated from Longmont High School in 1947. For several years, the Lechmans farmed east of Longmont, near Rinn, before purchasing land east of Union Reservoir. They operated their farm until 1972 when they moved into Longmont.

Betty had worked for many years as a postal carrier and secretary to the postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service, until her retirement in 1993. The Lechmans were active members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She enjoyed tole painting and other crafts, the beauty of hummingbirds and columbines, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim, on December 23, 2004; a sister, Elizabeth Hudgens; and her brothers, Peter (as an infant), Lawrence, Joe, Jake, and Dean Seewald.

Betty is survived by her son, Anthony Lechman and his wife, Verneta, of Longmont; her daughter, Lynn Greenhalge and her husband, Scott, of Longmont; and three grandchildren, Greg Greenhalge, and Mariah and Nicole Lechman. She is also survived by a brother, Bob Seewald of Longmont; a sister, Mary Kraus and her husband, Bob, of Lakewood; two sisters-in-law, Judy Seewald of Idaho and Helga Seewald of Arizona; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held at Howe Mortuary on Thursday, June 7, at 6:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 8, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Reverend Mickey Flaska as celebrant. Interment will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
