Tillie and her twin brother were the 11th and 12th children of Ferdinand and Katherine Marks. Unfortunately, her twin brother died at birth.

Tillie's parents had both immigrated from a German Catholic colony in Pfeifer, Russia, in 1876 and 1880. Her father supported the family as a machinist helper in Kansas, as a farmer in Colorado, and again in Kansas as a cobbler who also repaired leather harness in his "Electrical Shoe Shop" in Lakin Kansas.

On February 22, 1922 she married Michael George Breight, who was also born in the German colonies of Pfeifer, Russia. Michael was working for the Santa Fe Railroad at the time. They lived in Topeka, where she kept house and raise her 8 children. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on February 22, 1972, with all of their children in attendance.

***Dorothy M. Breight Briggs (1928-2011)
***Matilda Martha Breight Keener (1931-1997)
***Michael G. Breight Jr. (c.1938-?)
