Mr. Breight was a dispatcher in the materials department for Santa Fe Railway 47 years. He retired in 1967.
He was born March 17, 1901 in Pfeifer, Russia, the son of Ignatius and Catherine Breit.
He moved to the United States in 1907 and was a naturalized citizen. He spent most of his life in Meriden. He had been in Cherokee Lodge in Oskaloosa five years.
Mr. Breight was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden and Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree Knight of Council No. 2608 in North Topeka.
He was married to Matilda Martha Marks Feb. 22, 1922 in Garden City. She died March 8, 1988. Daughter, Lucille Nethery, died in 1987.
Survivors include four daughters, Helen Lewis, Shreveport, La., Dorothy Briggs, Topeka, Matilda Keener, Cripple Creek, Colo., and Catherine Fitzpatrick, Turner; three sons, Edward Breight, St. Louis, Mo, Sylvester Bright, Edwards, Mo., and Michael Bright, Meriden; 30 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden. Burial will be in Mount Calvary in Topeka. Mr. Breight will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka where rosaries ill be recited by the parish at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. today.
