Achsah (pronounced OCK-saw) Kinsley was born c. 1817 in New York, the daughter of John Kinsley (1796-1851), who hailed from Massachusetts, and Achsah (Dunn) Kinsley (1791-1856), who hailed from New York. John Kinsley was the son of Calvin Kinsley (1749-1811) and Susanna (Lothrop) Kinsley (1754-1804). Achsah (Dunn) Kinsley was the daughter of Alexander Dunn (1761-1811) and Sally (Nye) Dunn (1768-1840). John and Achsah's parents all hailed from Massachusetts.


Achsah Kinsley was married on November 4, 1832 in Shelby County, Indiana to Willis Ball (1808-1864), who was the son of Stephen Reuben Ball and Mary Harding. They were the parents of;

  1. John Kinsley Ball 1833-1920
  2. Sarah Lodema Ball LaFavre 1836-1874
  3. Abraham Reuben Ball 1839-1910
  4. Margaret Amanda Ball 1842-1904. Margaret may have been married to a Joseph Turner.
  5. Mary Cynthia Ball Hare 1849-1914
  6. Amanda E Ball Turner 1852-1904
  7. Emma Ball Jackson 1854-1920

* The 1850 census lists Willis 42, Axa 36, John 18, Sarah 1, Abraham 11, Margaret 8 and Cynthis 1 living in Johnson, Clinton, Indiana where he was a farmer.

* The 1860 census has William and Achsah 44, John 27, Abraham 21, Cynthia 11, Amanda 8 and Emely [Emma] 5, living in New Hope, Union, Iowa with an Afton post office. Willis is a farmer with a personal value of $1810.

*The 1870 census lists Achsah 54, now a widow, and daughters Arminda [Amanda] 18 and Emma 16, living in Union, Sullivan, Missouri.

Achsah died in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Henry H. Hare and Mary (Ball) Hare in Elk City, Kansas. Probably buried on or near Henry H. Hare's lot in this cemetery. Bolen F. Hare, Henry's father, died the year before in 1894 and is probably buried in the same area.
