John along with his brothers Jacob and George were know as the Batchelor Knoops, established the Knoop Brothers Company. They were pioneer entreprenuers involve in agriculture and used water power from Lostcreek to power their mill to produce corn mel and whiskey. before the canal came hrough Troy in 1837, they hauled away their prouce, which include cured pork, to the Miami River where they built a flat boat and floated to Cincinnati for sale. they sold the lumber fom the boats and bought horses to ride home. They invested in land and some of the new businesses in Troy such as the Troy Buggy Works, Troy wagon works, Troy Water Works, Troy National Bank and became quite wealthy.
