April 8 1890
Just as we go to press we learn of the passing of our old and well-known countyman, Mr. Benjamin Lucas, which occurred yesterday afternoon. Mr. Lucas had been a life-long, sterling Democrat, and in his earlier years was one of the most active members of the party. He was at one time Deputy Sheriff of this county, and served during the late war as a gallant Confederate soldier. His age was about 73 years. Funeral services tomorrow, (Wednesday,) at the residence of his son, Mr. George W. Lucas, near Duffield's Depot; interment in Edge Hill Cemetery at this place.
