Surrounded by his loving family, Martin Herman passed into the arms of Jesus on August 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Herman farm.

Martin was born September 27, 1942 in Eagle Lake, Texas. He and his two sisters, Vivian and Christine grew up in the Chesterville area and attended school in Lissie and Eagle Lake. He graduated from Eagle Lake High School in 1960 then attended Sam Houston University working during the summers at Ashby Oil & Mud in Eagle Lake.

In 1963 Martin married Lois Miller in Eagle Lake. After their marriage he began his 37 year career with Shell Oil in Victoria, Texas. While in Victoria their son Steven was born. After numerous company transfers Shanon was born in San Antonio.
Martin celebrated a very successful career with Shell and retired in 1999. Martin and Lois then moved back to his birth place on the Chesterville prairie. Martin spent many years of his retirement working on the land he loved. He also developed a love for baking pastries. He was known for his kolaches and cheese rolls that he often donated to local fundraisers.

Martin served faithfully as a deacon at First Baptist Chruch Eagle Lake and on the Wintermann Library Board. He also served many years as a docent at Prairie Edge Museum where he shared his love for local history. In 2021 Martin was chosen to serve with Lois as the Grand Marshall for the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade.

Martin is survived by his wife Lois of 58 years, son Steven, daughter Shanon, grandchildren Wesley Herman, Austin Renaud, Dallas and Tyler Garza, sister Christine Owen and nephew Glenn Scholz.

He is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Leona Herman and sister Vivian Scholz.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas and at church on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Funeral service will be Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Eagle Lake, Texas with Pastor Joshua Turpin officiating.

Pallbearers are Austin Renaud, Dallas Garza, Tyler Rose Garza, Russell Ware, Glenn Scholz and Wesley Herman. Honorary pallbearers are First Baptist Church Deacons, his nieces and nephews.
