Mary C. Umlauf, 73, of Ashland, passed away Friday evening at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1948, in Ashland, and was the daughter of the late Isabelle (Eagan) and John Coddington Sr.

She was a lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Ashland. Mary served on various committees and had several leadership roles in the vestry throughout the years at the church.

Mary graduated with the Class of 1966 from Mount Carmel High School. She then continued her education at Bloomsburg College and graduated in 1970 with a BS in elementary education.

Later she obtained her Master of Education from Bloomsburg University.

She was an elementary education teacher in first and third grade in the North Schuylkill School District for many years.

Mary married her surviving husband, Lee R. Umlauf, on July 1, 1972.

In addition to being involved with her church, she was also on the Ashland Public Library Board and was a member of PSECA.

Mary is survived by her spouse; son, Peter Umlauf, husband of Marie, Las Vegas, Nev.; granddaughter, Malia Umlauf; sister, Anne Joyce, wife of Charles, Pine Grove; sister, Colleen Dzwonczyk, wife of Joseph, New Freedom; brother, John Coddington Jr., husband of Gail, Harrisburg; brother, Joseph Coddington, Pine Grove.

A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, Sept. 12, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Market and 13th streets, Ashland. A visitation for family and friends will be held in the church from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Interment will follow services at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's name to the Ashland Public Library, 1229 Centre Street, Ashland, PA 17921 or St. John's Memorial Fund (North Parish), PO Box 487, Frackville, PA 17931.
