ASHLAND Robert E. Workman, 69, of Ashland, died Thursday evening, April 27, 2006, at his residence, following a long illness.

He was born on June 2, 1936, in Jelloway, and was a son of Wayne E. and Mollie (Schwartz) Workman, who preceded him in death.

After high school, Robert attended Kent State University, where he earned a bachelor of science in chemistry.

He was a resident of Ashland County for 46 years and was employed as chief chemist at General Latex and Chemical Corporation for 40 years.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and involved in various activities including, choir, the counting committee and the CJU Sunday school class. He was also in charge of the speakers for the Lay Leader program at the church.

On Dec. 24, 1960, he married Constance M. Hitchman, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, one daughter and son-in-law, Anne (Greg) Newman of Hudson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Mark A. (Michelle) Workman, M.D. of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Dr. Jonathon R. (Vanessa) Workman, M.D., of Greenville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Mark Workman's children, Kelsey, Mackenzie, Zachary, Harrison, Anne Newman's children, Robert and Jonathan and Jonathan Workman's daughter, Maria; one sister, Cheryl A. McCready of Ashland; one brother and sister-in-law, Daniel (Sharon) Workman of Millersburg. Also surviving are his wife's family, which includes Roxana (Richard) McAuley, Julia Sorquist, Al (Frankie) Hitchman, a sister-in-law, Ellie Hitchman and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 2, at 11 a.m. from Christ United Methodist Church with Pastor James Cox officiating. Burial will be in North Bend Church of the Brethren Cemetery, where the family will gather at 2:30 p.m.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, May 1, at Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home in Ashland. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the services on Tuesday morning.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 1140 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1605 County Road 1095, Ashland and/or the American Cancer Society, 43099 North Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
