—We have to record the death of Lieut. General Henry William Gordon, colonel commandant of the 3d brigade Royal Artillery, who died at Southampton on Tuesday last. The gallant deceased, who had attained the advanced age of 79 years, entered the Royal Regiment of Artillery, as second lieutenant, August 17, 1803, and became first lieutenant Sept. 12, following. He served in the expedition to Naples in 1805, and at the subsequent occupation of Sicily. He was also present at the Battle of Maida, for which he received the silver war medal and clasp, and was afterwards present at the attack and surrender of the rock of Scylla in 1806. His commissions bear date, as second captain, August 3, 1810; captain, July 29, 1825; brevet major, July 22, 1830; lieut. colonel Royal Artillery, Jan. 10, 1837; colonel, Nov. 1, 1848; major general, Nov. 28, 1851.
