MRS. HERMINA REHLING, BELOVED PIONEER, EXPIRES SATURDAY

Final Rites Tuesday Afternoon From The St. Peter's Church

Death came Saturday to claim one of Pender's vicinity's beloved citizens, Mrs. Ludwig Rehling. The deceased was a Pender pioneer whose life was an example to be respected by all who were enjoyed by her acquaintance.
The following eulogy was given by Rev. Kuehner of St. Peter's Lutheran church:
Mrs. Ludwig Rehling, nee Hermine Barkemeyer, daughter of Henry and Helene Barkemeyer, was born in Oldenburg, Germany, August 5, 1864 and baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. At about the age of 20 she came to America residing in Chicago the first year and a half. She then came to Dodge County, Nebraska where she stayed until she was married on February 21, 1888 to Ludwig Rehling. They then came to Pender to live on a farm six miles west of Pender where they resided until 1916 when they moved to Pender.
After living in Pender for ten years they went back on the farm to keep house for their son; staying with him for ten years. They then went back to Pender to live until Mr. Rehling passed away on January 18, 1933. The deceased thereafter made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Fred Heineman, who lovingly and devoted, cared for her. Her health started to fail about six years ago, with heart trouble. On June 30, 1939 she suffered a stroke and passed away on July 1, 1939 at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 26 days. Surviving her are one sister, Mrs. Katherine Ziee at Schiller Park, Illinois. (One son, Henry preceded her in death). The children surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Fred Heineman, two sons, Louie Rehling of Pender and Herman Rehling of Dalton, Nebraska and eleven grandchildren.
Mrs. Rehling was officiated as a devout Christian who loved God's house, and also as a citizen, friend and neighbor was loved and respected. God has taken her now, but the memory of a Christian life will continue to bless unto children's children.
