Alta Jean Newcomb of Vinita, OK passed from this life Monday, December 26, 2022 at Saint Francis Hospital in Vinita, OK. She was 93.
Jean was born December 26, 1929 in Coffeyville, KS to John and Axie (Miller) Shepherd. She had lived in Vinita, OK since 2008 moving from Cardin, OK. Jean graduated from Marshfield, MO High School in 1948. She had worked as a research assistant for Washington Hospital in St. Louis, MO for many years. She then worked as a nurse's aide in area nursing homes in Commerce, Vinita and Miami, OK and then for Home of Hope in Vinita, OK. She attended Cardin Baptist Church in Cardin, OK.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Newcomb, 2 sisters, Vicky Williams and Mary Shepherd and a niece, Annette Henderson.
Survivors include 1 son, Charles "Kevin" Lawallen and wife Cherilyn Kay of Vinita, OK, 2 grandchildren, Rochelle Lawallen of Inola, OK and Derrick Lawallen of Vinita, OK, great niece, Annette Eichhorn and numerous other nephews and great nephews.
